Is your New Year’s resolution to revive your web presence? Were you a little too lax when it came to life on the web last year?

Understandable.  Twitter. Facebook. Online ads. Blogs. It all can be a little overwhelming. But these days, whether you’re a newbie or a bestseller, life on the web-o-sphere is an important part of your promotional arsenal.

So, what can you do?

• Give your website a redo.

If you’re online home is looking a little too early 90s or even too 2000s, it might be time for a re-do. Other elements, such as an out-of-date or hard-to-navigate website structure are just a few other reasons to revamp your website.

• Start or make an appearance on a blog.

If promotion isn’t your forte and you’ve been hiding out, spread your wings by starting, joining or making an appearance on a blog. I know it’s scary, but blog appearances or interviews are a great way to take baby steps out onto the web, if you haven’t had much practice.

• Get social.

Social media, especially, Facebook is a must for small businesses. If I can’t find you on Facebook these days, I have serious suspicions. If you’re an author, social media, like Facebook and Twitter, can be a great way to network with both readers and other authors, but like a blog, it’s only a good idea, if you’ll keep up with it and you still have time to write. Not sure what to post about? Do a little research into what companies or authors who have a lot of followers or friends and are in the same business or genre as you are post about.

• Try something new to you.

Try something new to you until you find your niche. Not everything on the web is for everyone, and you shouldn’t expect it to be.  If Twitter isn’t your thing, try creating podcasts or a Video Blog on Youtube. Like to post, but not a blogger? Set up a Tumblr account. There’s something out there for everyone. The key is to find out where you fit.
